MANU MALO unfolds a tapestry of memories, shedding light on our shared journey and the evolution of language from spoken words to physical expression. Ta’alili’s approach to this expression connects with the natural elements of the ocean and sky, blending dance and spoken word with the rhythm of nature. We ground ourselves close to the land, holding it dear as the performers embrace it, making the stage a meaningful space where dreams find their way ashore with the gentle touch of the ocean. Translated from Samoan to mean “the strong bird,” MANU MALO guides the audience through a journey between dreams and thoughts. Amidst this undefined starting point, the artists passionately recall and breathe life into their shared history, aiming for moments of togetherness while honouring the fragments of their memories. Guided by the visionary duo of Aloali’i and Tori Manley-Tapu, Ta’alili, was conceived from a deep desire to connect with their communities on a profound level. Since its inception in 2019, Ta’alili’s creative journey has been a voyage through the realms of Pacific futurism, anti-heroism, the yearning for paradise, reimagined dreams, and the pursuit of coexistence. Their collaborative efforts encompass a range of dance styles, including street-dance and traditional Pacific Islands dance forms. MANU MALO was developed and premiered during Ta’alili’s residency with K3 Tanzplan Zentrum für choreographie / Kampnagel with the support of Pacific Dance NZ, Creative New Zealand and Peacocke Dance Trust
